In Motion 3

"In Motion 3" - What a perfect piece for a community recreation center!

You can't miss "In Motion 3" by Hanna Jubran when you pull into the Clayton Community Center - where our visitors are en route to get "in motion" themselves! The work stands 12 feet tall right out front as you pull into the parking lot from Amelia Church Road, and it's the tallest piece on this year's trail.

The sculpture's strong red and blue hues stand out against the green backdrop of the Clayton Community Center and its surrounding trees. At the same time, the angular and metallic piece seems right at home alongside the modern metal construction of the community center.

In Motion 3In selecting pieces for this year's Clayton Sculpture Trail, the Public Art Advisory Board focused on bringing big, bold and colorful statues to Town, and Jubran's work fits that goal to a T. So it's no surprise that you can find two more of Jubran's sculptures at Clayton Town Square - "In Motion," another work in the same series, and "Last Dance," which portrays similar themes of movement and harmony.

Jubran's vibrant metalwork has been a staple of the Clayton Sculpture Trail since its inception. The inaugural 2013 to 2014 trail featured "Primal Unity" and "Celestial Motion," and you can check out a video of his work, "Life Cycle," from the 2014 to 2015 trail. Last year, Jubran's "Blue Cube" adorned the Front Street Roundabout.

Hanna Jubran with one of his sculpturesHanna Jubran is a Palestinian sculptor, born in Jish, in Upper Galilee. He received his Master of Fine Arts in Sculpture from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and is currently a Sculpture Professor at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. Jubran's work addresses the concepts of time, movement, balance and space. Each sculpture occupies and creates its own reality influenced by its immediate surroundings. The work does not rely on one medium to evoke the intended response, but instead takes advantage of compatible materials such as wood, granite, steel, stainless steel, iron and bronze.

Jubran regularly participates in international art shows, competitions and symposiums. Each time Jubran participates in a symposium, the sculpture he creates is retained as part of the town or organization's permanent collection. Jubran is consistent in his pursuit of creating enjoyable sculptures for private and corporate collections. You can check out more of his work at his personal website.
