[ARCHIVED] Town of Clayton Welcomes John Mack as Director of Information Systems

John Mack

The Town of Clayton’s Information Systems Department has officially welcomed a new director.

John Mack began his new role as the Director of Information Systems (IS) on May 23. Mack will be the first IS Director the Town has had in nearly 12 years. The last person to serve in this role for the Town was Chief Information Officer Angela Tousey, who resigned from the position in June 2010.

“Hiring an Information Systems Director whose skills aligned with our Town Council’s vision has been a priority for us this year. John’s years of experience, particularly in municipal government, have made him the perfect person to lead us through restructuring this function,” said Interim Town Manager Rich Cappola. “I am confident that he will be able to work with all of our departments to better streamline our work processes, improve user experience, and enhance communications for the Town of Clayton.”

Mack has 15 years of experience in the IT field. Before coming to Clayton, he served as a Senior Engineer for Verizon Managed Network Services for five years. Prior to that he served as a Lead IT Engineer for the Town of Garner for 10 years, where he helped build a roadmap for their IT infrastructure.

Mack is a graduate of the Porter and Chester Institute in Connecticut, where he studied Computer and Network Technology. He has also earned several certificates in his field of study including one from UNC Chapel Hill.

“I’m confident that as the Town’s Information Systems Director that I can elevate Clayton’s IT infrastructure,” said Mack. “I am excited for the opportunity to use my knowledge of IT to help the Town operate more efficiently.”

Mack is originally from Connecticut. He has lived in North Carolina since 2002, and in 2006 he moved to Clayton. He and his wife, Nicole, have two children who will both attend Corinth Holders High School next year. Their son, Riley, is a rising junior, while their daughter, Delaney, is a rising freshman.

According to Mack, one of the main things that drew him to Clayton was its hometown feel. He loves the downtown area and the many parks and greenways the Town has to offer. In his spare time, he enjoys saltwater fishing and playing guitar.
